Democratic Republic Of Congo Likely To Experience A Static Role In Extra-Government Non-State Actor Activity Within The Next Five Years

3_EG.jpg

Executive Summary:
Due to a large amount of instability, no visible democracy, an extremely difficult arena for conducting business, and a significant amount of corruption, it is likely that extra-governmental non-state actors (NSAs), such as the PopularStatic.jpg Self-Defense Forces and the Lord’s Resistance Army, play the most influential but still moderate role within the Democratic Republic of Congo (represented by its score of 3 on the Extra-Government side of the Role Potential spectrum). However, within the next five years, it is likely that the role NSAs play within the Democratic Republic of Congo will remain static. This is primarily due to the unknown direction the government will move in after successfully completing democratic elections in 2006, as well as the stagnant economic situation that will affect the amount of foreign direct investment the country receives.
